Our Story

Hi, I’m Fata Antoinette. Some know me as an educator, traveler, or author—but at my core, I am a creator.

Select by FAs is more than a shop; it is the continuation of a family legacy that spans generations and continents. My story began in Monrovia, Liberia, where I was raised by two parents who championed the arts. My mother, a master tailor, ran her own shop with a diverse team of artisans, and my maternal grandmother was a self-taught quilter who could turn simple scraps into intricate masterpieces.

I didn't inherit the family singing voice, but I did inherit their hands and their hearts for storytelling.

For my kindergarten graduation, while other children were getting toys, my parents gave me my first sewing machine. That gift didn't just teach me a skill; it opened a world where I could weave my Liberian heritage, my love for poetry, and my passion for craftsmanship into things you can hold in your hand.

The FAs Family Team Today, my work is a family affair. My husband is our dedicated (unpaid!) delivery lead, my children are our chief product testers, and my mother remains my forever sewing coach.
